Knitting with Texture. Small Scented Cushions Knitting Pattern
Cables, Twists, Leaves and Knitting Belles.
We were all of these things at last weekends fabulous
‘Knitting with Texture’ workshop held at Castaway Yarns.
The Small Scented Cushion pattern is a great guide to
knitting with texture and includes knitting patterns for three small textured
cushions.
Cabled, Twisted Rib and Garden Plot.
Cables, Twists and Leaves add texture to knitting and
are a lot easier than they first appear.
Cables are formed by working the stitches out of
order by slipping half the stitches onto a cable needle (a small double pointed
needle) and holding at the back or the front of the work dependent on the
pattern. The second group of stitches are then worked, followed by the stitches
on the cable needle
The twisted rib stitch was
originally used in the 18th century and involves knitting into the
back and front of alternate stitches creating a textured rib.
The stitch numbers for the Garden Plot (Leaf) pattern
don’t remain constant from row to row. Increasing the stitches in one row and
then decreasing on subsequent rows forming the bold leaf shape that stands
out in relief.
The Garden Plot pattern is written for four small triangles, which create a 6 inch square when sewn together.
Great pattern for a larger patchwork cushion, baby blanket or bag:)

Small Scented Cushions
Each cushion measures just 6" x 6" and takes very small quantity of DK yarn.
Using a small quantity of polyester toy filling and a few drops of your favourite perfume on the filling, they make wonderful gifts.
I've placed mine on my desk in the studio.
They also make a drawer smell beautiful, although it seems a shame to hide them away!
